Cons and Costumes for 2010
Just because I felt like writing something down.

2010 Con list:

Wonder Con in San Francisco

Celebration V (If they can figure out the when and where and how much)

I don't really have much planned.  I am going to do more Tony Stark/Iron Man this year.  Probably all I will do, mainly because there is nothing else I would rather do.  Oh and maybe Han Solo if we go to Celebration.

So I hope to have a few gadgets and props for Tony/IM as well as maybe a new suit or something.  Time will tell :-)

I will keep you guys posted (maybe)

Ironman at Dragon*Con
Well, kinda sorta.

I should start by saying that the group that we hang out with at D*C doesn't costume. Most of them anyway don't. So the idea came up that we should try to do a group costume. Of course, people who don't costume have a hard time investing $ into a costume.

So I was planning to do the Tony Stark thing anyway at the con, so an idea was born to create a Stark Industries group. The guys would be bodyguards/security considering that most men own a dark suit. We recruited some sexy ladies to play Tony's arm candy, Lady_S was there as Pepper Potts, Tracy was working to get into the Natasha Romanoff character and we even ended up with Matt Damon. BobsPhotoShow was our camera guy and snapped away at every turn.

The whole thing ended up being a ton of fun and we are already planning to do something like this again.

Some of the favorites and the rest can be found here: www.starkindus.com/starkindusdc/index.htm

SDCC Room booking.... yes it still sucks!
So anyone who is going to San Diego Comic Con and who doesn't live in the area had the pleasure of fighting for rooms this morning.

At 9am PST, Travel Planners, the people who handle the rooms for SDCC opened their phone/fax lines and website for us to book rooms.

The past has been sheer insanity with site crashes, busy phone lines etc... leaving many people with nothing to show for their time other than a huge headache.

This year (finally they put some thought into this), they decided to have a queue for people to wait in once you click to book a room. It was based on the order you clicked to "book" and that is where you stayed until it was your turn. In theory, this was a good plan. But if you refreshed your browser, you were put back to the end of the line. Fortunately they tell you this ahead of time.

My experience this morning on 3 computers and one phone was as follows:

Only one of the computers ever got in to book a room. Never got through on the phone either. The first time I picked a room to book, when I went to confirm the reservation the page crashed. Fortunately, I was able to click back and try again, only this time, the room was sold out. So when I clicked to look at other rooms, it put me back into the queue. Eventually I got back in to look at rooms again and this time, there were a lot less listed. I was able to book a room, just not where I wanted to be.

Once I confirmed my reservation, I took a chance to see if there were any rooms left and to my surprise, the hotel that I tried for first now had rooms available. Not sure how or why... but I was able to book for that hotel.

I consider myself EXTREMELY lucky considering that other friends were trying to book at the same time and were not able to get anything close by.

All things considered, I am happy, but this was still not much better than last time. I hope that the rest of you are able to get something.

See you at SDCC!

Dragon*Con state of mind
Well in only 10 short days, Dragon*Con will be here again.

Once it begins, it will be 4 days of drinking and running around in costume, going to parties, dancing, taking photos, drinking, socializing, etc... notice how I didn't mention sleep anywhere.

Costumes: I am not 100% sure if we will be costuming this year, but we will bring some stuff just incase there is time.
On my list should be:
- Major Drunk
- Magnum PI
- and a couple of maybe costumes

For Tracy:
- Black Widow
- Black Cat
- unknown

We look forward to seeing everyone there, so if you are going, look us up and chime in here!

End of one journey, start of another
So many of you guys know the game "World of Warcraft". Many of you have had your live taken over by WoW. We play it too. Although very very slowly.

So after I think a year and a half, we finally got our characters to lvl 70. So we have reached the end of the road, but start on a new path to make better lvl 70 characters and to go on all new adventures with them.

With lvl 70 came new flying mounts which I have to say are very cool. You can now explore areas of the game that you could not get to before and go on new quest that are only reachable this way.

Hopefully, the new expansion pack won't come for another couple of months, cause it would be nice to be lvl 70 for a little while before we have to work to get to 80.

Sat nights photo Shoot
Last Sat night, Tracy and I decided to shoot a new set for ShutterGirls.com in the spirit of Halloween. We went back and forth about what we wanted to shoot and some of the ideas would be too involved or we didn't have a clear idea of what we wanted to do... so then came the idea of the ghost. I didn't really want to do something too traditional and Tracy wanted it to be both spooky and sexy at the same time.

We created our backdrop out of some items we already had and then picked up some "Scene Setters" from the local party store and went to work. A comination of Peat Moss, dead branches and tomb stones would give a decent look to it.

Tracy's costume was another story altogether. We had no idea, all I knew is that I wanted something sheer and flowing. Some type of gauze would be perfect and while at the fabric store, we found something. We didn't really want to sew anything... so we cut enough fabric to cover Tracy and have it be long. Cut a hole through the head and then cut the arms to look long and flowy. To keep the arms together, I tacked them with fabric glue in two spots. Out came the scissors to give it a more ghostly look. Originally, we were going to make a sash to keep the sides closed, but once Tracy had covered herself in white makeup, I actually liked it better open. Because the fabric was pretty sheer and that we wanted to add another element to the look of the costume, we added some other fabric that we got at the Halloween store and that completed the look.

The photo below is a sample from the shoot. This one has digital magic added to it to give her the ghostly look, the others probably won't. Look for the whole set to be posted at the end of the month on the site. Let me know what you think.

Dragon*Con is some ride!
Yes I'm back and no, photos aren't nearly together. I will have some real soon and will post some of my favorites right here!

So in a very fast nutshell because I still have much to catch up on....

The bads:

1. Not having enough time to spend with everyone I wanted to. I had planned to connect with so many people (you know who you are) and saw a fraction of them, fortunately, some of you I saw during the past 3 weekends...
2. D*C was too spread out this year and I found it hard to run into people like normal.
3. Not costuming as much. Yes I was out during the day a lot, ulike last year but still found myself out of costume a lot. This year we costumed more in the day and less at night...
4. Breaking my camera and having to get a new one. Good thing there is a Wolf Camera in the mall.

The Goods:
1. Rooming with the Elvis Trooper, Justine and Randy (technically his room was attached to ours)
2. Randy's bed (I will explain later cause on it's own it sounds really odd)
3. Every minute I got to spend with old friends and new friends
4. Getting stuck in an elevator. This could have easily been a bad, but when you are with friends, it's all good, even the hot and sweaty part
5. Finally connecting with Miracole after several failed attemps all weekend long.
6. Party after party after party. I lost track of where I had been and where I was going next.
7. Wearing Ash at D*C

There are way more goods that I will go into later.... for now, back to catch up!

Dragon*Con is here bitches!!!
Dragon Con is like next week!!!!

Man, I am beat. Dragon*Con is next week, I have one more weekend to do at the State Fair and then we fly out Wed to Atlanta.

Need to box up and ship out costume items this week for Atlanta too.

Trying to figure out exactly which costumes I want to wear. I really want to wear my Ash costume, but I haven't had as much time at the gym as I had hoped, so I still feel like a slug, so I am not sure if I want to subject myself to what I like to call, "The Window of Fat" lol.

Otherwise, I am bringing:
Indiana Jones
probably some sort of Toga for the party

So we are staying at the Marriot this year for a change. Let's tear it up there!

Tick Tick Tick
9 days till San Diego Comic Con...

Schedule is posted too for those who care:

Each day that passes I get more nervous that things won't be ready. I made a lot of progress this weekend though...

The harness is basically done and the shirt is close to being done!

I started here with the distressing... way too clean

Comic Con comes this way!
With only 9 days left before we head to SCal for the San Diego Comic Con, I find myself running out of time.

I have made progress with my "Ash" costume and hope to just about wrap it up this weekend. That is if I can avoid getting side tracked on say... The evil that is World of Warcraft.

Here is a shot of my progress for the shirt and harness

Does anyone know a good source for boots like these? Finding boots from the early 90's isn't so easy

They look a lot like old Hi-Tecs

Evil Dead, Batman and Wow
I actually have a little to write about for a change. More than the nothing I write about anyway...

So where to start? This last weekend we made an appearance at the 4th Anual Super Hero Day in 106 degree weather. Yea, that was fun. But we were well received and the kids dug it, so hey!

That's Jewels as Batgirl, Tracy as Catwoman, Al as Green Lantern, me as the Batman and Scott as Sups.

World or Warcraft has not consumed my soul, although I am enjoying it very much. Elbow has been hurting lately, so I have been laying off a little.

I watched Evil Dead again last night looking to get some more costume details. Wanted to compare the end look of Ash to the Army of Darkness. So I got an update from my chainsaw and shotgun maker, he says it will be ready by Comic Con. Now if only I can get the other things done... that's on me and my need to learn how to work my leather sewing machine.

I have been doing some work on the shirt and harness, here is a photo. It looks like crap so far, but it's a start.

I need to go shopping for some stuff to make blood and dirt...

That's it... 21 days till we head down to San Diego, so I better get cracking!

Never enough time!
Man, Comic Con is like, 3 weeks away. I am no where near prepared either. I haven't lost the extra pounds that I wanted to (I can do something in 3 weeks though), although I have lost a few. Trying to tie up several loose ends...

Costume progress report:

ESB Han Solo - is mostly coming along. The jacket should be done soon and the new gun rig and tools should be here (hope). My boots need to do back to get cut down, they are like 2 inches too tall.
Tracy is good with her ANH Leia, although she could use a better way to create her buns.

Indiana Jones - isn't really an issue, although I am waiting on a few items, I have plenty of things I can sub if needed. Tracy's dress should be nearly done. We found a pair of shoes which should work ok.

Batman - There have been all sorts of issues around this. The biggest issue is finding a heavy weight darker gray spandex. So who knows if I will do this or not... we will see. Tracy's Catwoman goggles have been sanded and repainted and hopefully we will get some metal ones one day....

Ash - There is a lot of work still to be done on this one. Still trying to find a good pair of pants although I did find a pair of brown Dickies that should work. Trying to find the right hiking boots has not been easy, they don't make em in that style anymore. I was able to find a good blue shirt and have started to distress it. I could use a couple more shirts though. Those are tough to find. I have also started on the chest harness... which should come together just fine. Need to clean off the area near my leather sewing machine so I can use it.

The big problem there is my chainsaw, shotgun and metal hanger for the chest harness. I haven't been able to get in touch with the guy who is making them. Why is contracting out always such a pain?

Tracy's dress is coming along nicely though:

thanks to the good people at the-magic-wardrobe

Logan/Wolverine - After this weekens superhero event, I need to not shave for the next 3 weeks. Hope I can get my chops together in time. My claws and belt buckle need some touch up, but otherwise, should be good if I can lose that weight I mentioned LOL.
